Ovate Tylophora
Tylophora ovata
Ovate Tylophora is a native climbing plant, commonly found in shrublands and woodlands in the wild. Its leaves and stems are covered in yellow soft “hairs”. Two leaves always grow in opposite at each node, in a neat and orderly manner. The fruits of Ovate Tylophora also come in pairs, shaped remarkably like a pair of spindles. When the fruits ripen, dry, and subsequently split open, they reveal seeds bearing white hairs that disperse with the wind.
Ecologically speaking, Ovate Tylophora serves as a larval food plant for the butterflies Ceylon Blue Glassy Tiger and Glassy Tiger. In terms of medicinal use, its roots have the effect of relieving coughs and clearing phlegm.
