Maiden’s Jealousy
Tristellateia australasiae
Maiden’s Jealousy is a salt-tolerant evergreen woody climber, naturally distributed along the fringes of mangroves and coastlines from Southeast Asia to northern Australia. Each lemon-coloured flower produces three star-shaped samaras (i.e. winged fruits); as the samaras ripen and turn brown, they resemble the star anise. Maiden’s Jealousy, alongside its congener Hiptage, serves as a larval food plant for the butterfly Brown Awl.
