滿江紅
Mosquito Fern
Azolla imbricata

Mosquito Fern is a floating fern commonly found in paddy fields and water ponds. Its leaves are arranged in triangles and are delicacies to freshwater fishes. Mosquito Fern can reproduce quickly by vegetative propagation and spread widely over water. It gives the plant a beautiful Chinese name meaning 'red river' when its leaves turn red in winter. Unlike Salvinia cucullata, Mosquito Fern has true roots hanging underwater.
