Barrier-free Facilities

 

Hong Kong Wetland Park is an ecotourism attraction with providing world class conservation, education and tourism facilities to both local and overseas visitors as its mission. With the goal to enable all visitors including those with special needs to visit the Park at ease, Hong Kong Wetland Park provides a barrier-free environment to visitors.

 

Ramps access and Lift

 

Ramps access and Lift
Most of the walkways in the Park are level, while ramp access is provided where necessary, for example to connect the Ticket Office, exhibition galleries and bird hides. The lift at the Visitor Centre connects atrium on the ground floor with the exhibition galleries on the first floor. Tactile and braille markings push buttons and voice-announcement device are set inside.
 

 

Theatre
Theatre
Theatre is located at the Atrium of the Visitor Centre. Inside the theatre, designated spaces with indicator lights on the floor are reserved for wheelchair users.
 

 

Tactile guide paths
Tactile guide paths
Tactile guide paths and Braille signs are paved along the walkway from the main entrance to the Visitor Centre, as well as inside the Visitor Centre. The tactile paths guide visually impaired visitors to the Ticket Office, souvenir shop, café, toilets, theatre, exhibition galleries and the outdoor Wetland Reserve.
 

 

Tactile and Braille Maps
Tactile and Braille Maps
Two tactile and braille maps were installed near the Ticket Office and Wetland Reserve. When visually impaired visitors approach the maps, the infrared sensor will trigger the map's audio music track thus notifying the visitors of its location. The maps also have built-in simple audio narration that can be triggered upon the pressing of a button.

Portable Tactile and Braille Guides
Portable Tactile and Braille guides are available for loan to visually impaired visitors at the Information Counter to facilitate their visit in the Park.
 

 

Telescopes for wheelchair users
Telescopes for wheelchair users
To facilitate wheelchair users to enjoy bird watching, telescopes of suitable heights are available at the park's bird hides and Viewing Gallery. There are labels in bird hides to designate spaces to give wheelchair users the priority to use these telescopes.
 

 

Wheelchair Loan Service
Wheelchair Loan Service
While visitors can bring their own wheelchairs to the Park, a small quantity of wheelchairs are also available at the Information Counter for borrowing free of charge.

Induction Loop System
Induction Loop System
To facilitate visitors who use hearing aids to listen clearly at various locations of the HKWP, induction loop system has been installed at the Information Counter and Ticket Office.
 

 

Audio Guide
Audio Guide
The infra-red Audio Guide System broadcasts interpretation automatically when visitors visit designated indoor galleries and hotspots. Visitors can also select to listen to the interpretation of a specific exhibit by keying in the exhibit number into the Audio Guide device. Free loan of audio guide set is available at the Information Counter. Languages available are: Cantonese, Putonghua, English, Japanese and Korean.
