Levine's Syzygium

Syzygium levinei

Levine's Syzygium is a native evergreen, white-barked, tree in Hong Kong. It is commonly found near lowland sparse woodlands and streams with good sunlight exposure, and is tolerant against drought and strong winds.

When blooming, Levine's Syzygium secretes plentiful nectar that attract a vast variety of insects to visit, assisting in pollination, while the ripe purplish-black fruits are food to fruit-eating birds. For mankind, the tree offers considerable dietary and medicinal value as well, which can be used for winemaking, or relieving bruising and swelling when used externally.
