Shrubs and Herbs

草海桐
Beach Naupaka
Scaevola taccada

Beach Naupaka is a native plant commonly seen in Hong Kong Wetland Park. It is adapted to grow on beaches because its leaves are succulent and have thick cuticle to prevent water loss. You may find many white lines on the leaves of Beach Naupaka. They are in fact channels made by larvae of leaf-mining fliers which eat the mesophyll of the leaves.
